What do your family and friends say about this car? When are you going to sell that thing?

  7. 01-18-2006 10:01 PM #7
    wow..
the owner is really cocky as hell.

How long have you owned this car? I bought it at auction a couple years ago as a 325is.
Is there anything unique about the history of this car? Not until I bought it.
What was your objective with this car? To prove that I could put a V8 in an E30, and do it right.
What tuning style would you say best describes this car (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser)?. None of these really fits. It’s more of an old-fashioned hot rod- powerful V8 in a small, lightweight car. Simple.
Who helped you build this car? Nobody really.
What makes your car special? I don’t know of another one like it. And if there is one, it’s not done as well as this.
What is your favorite part/feature/function? The power.
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? The voices in my head.
What don't you like about this car? It’s a ***** to drive in the snow.
What would you change if you could? It would be nice if the parking brake were functional.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? 8, maybe 9
What would you do to the car if money were no object? Am I hearing the voices again….?
Who has been your biggest critic of this project? E30 M3 purists, babbling on about upsetting the delicate balance…blah, blah, blah.
What do your family and friends say about this car? When are you going to sell that thing?
What is your favorite place to drive this car? It’s really too powerful for the street, needs to be driven on a long track to really enjoy it.
Who gets to drive this car? Me, and only me.
If your car had a motto, what would it be? First Gear is Useless!
If you had to name your car, what would you name it? Are you kidding? Who names their cars?
What was your previous project? Too many to remember.
What is your next project? 12-cylinder E36 coupe with 6-speed manual
What one word best describes your car? Insane.

    Owner Information
    Name- Andy
    mwerks Screeen Name-unknown
    Address- North of Chicago
    E-mail- who needs to know?
    Occupation- Fabricator

but i guess when u build sumthing like that yourself u get to be cocky as hell for sure.

from my understanding... he's an older fella... like... older than vwlarry.

    hey, couple of quick things:

    - first off, that's an amazing looking swap
    - second, can we get this thread moved (at some point) over to the merks E30 board? The drone of the crickets over there is deafening

    - finally, I'm (beginning) to come around on the whole engine swap thing. I used to think like, the model car is the model car, tune and enhance the car... bring out the best of what the car was originally intended to do... swaps are gross / the antichrist / what are you doing? / etc.

What's interesting about bmw's (and, if you think about it, they have had the lead on this kind of thing historically) is the diversity of the engines they will put into a chassis...

    eg: the E30
(I'm sure I'm missing a few, eg, the diesel, 1.6 engine, etc.)

    m10
    m20
    m30 (alpina)
    s14
    m42/40

anyway... all of these engines went into the chassis, were totally engineered, warrantied, etc. I'm sure if BMW was like, 'this is probably a bad idea' they wouldn't have considered it (think safety, warranty, etc issues).

So, to cut to the chase... These chassis can accomodate a WIDE range of engines... if done right (like the exampe above seems to be)

I think my 'anti-swap' bias is probably rooted in the 'I love *my* car so much' thing...' anyway, I'm getting over it...

Can you imagine somebody dumping on Carrol Shelby... like, "I can't believe you're putting *that* engine in a AC chassis!"

So, bring on the hemi-powered 318 conversions!!

Awesome! I'm glad to see someone besides the big tuners doing "it can't be done" swaps. Now, I'd better go clean my k&n filter (only engine mod) for some big improvements

My god. That is one hell of a conversion. I am picking up my e30 tommorow, and this just makes me wanna drive the **** out of it while pretending to make v8 engine noises......Just the sheer thought of it

cool, a lower stance would be a little more pleasing to look at... and some "hot-rod" wheels

Can that e30 even move? You'd think that it would sit there spinning its wheels into puddles of rubber. Sounds like fun.

Yup, and I want it, but the guy makes it sound like it's got a bazillion hp, when it's putting what, 250hp to the wheels?

As the above poster mentioned, he is cocky.

Very nice car. But there are definately faster E30s out there.

As the above poster mentioned, he is cocky.

I'm not so sure he was bragging about the power output. That engine originally made 282 hp and 324 lb-ft. Which is nothing to sneeze at. But in a body like the E30, that's significant, even before a chip and custom exhaust.

I drove the car. It has gobs of torque. First gear was absolutely useless. And the conversion work looks like it was performed in a secret workshop in Munich just below the 4-cylinder tower.

The owner is not so much cocky as confident in his work. Truth is, he's not much of a "people person" and prefers to remain out of the spotlight.

He was building that car when I was at the shop. I need to check back with him for sure.

Wrong. It's almost perfect- maybe a slightly more aggressive front lip, but the rear wheels are tucked, it can't (shouldn't) go lower.

A lower stance would probably render it undriveable..

OK, I need some edjumacation here. What is the "AKG" on the engine cover? The first thing that came to mind is headphones I have a nice pair of K271 Studios that I like to use for my classical stuff but obviously the two have nothing in common.
