I'm sure that some people have seen this already, but what do people think of the new F800S?

It's a paralell twin, belt driven sport bike. This is a VERY new direction for BMW to move in. I hate to be a stuck in the mud traditionalist, but I'm not sure what I think of it!

I suppose that as long as they keep doing everything to BMW standards, and don't start to skimp, it will be cool. I will be VERY interested to see these in person. There are a couple of shows coming up, and I don't think they will be there yet, but one can hope!

Thanks to Bob's BMW (http://www.bobsbmw.com) for the images.

(also, I am going to cross post this to both the motorcycle lounge and the F bike forum. We need to try to generate some traffic in here!)

Looks good but it is overpriced IMO. For the money I would rather have a F650GS or CS. I only saw the price in Euros (9950=11,924.41USD).

    Weeeelllllllll.....

The prices probably won't translate exactly between Euros and Dollars.
I mean, think about cars... when was the last time that any european car had a price that translated exactly on the exchange rate between Euros and Dollars?

And if you think about market positioning...
    The F650 CS MSRP's at $7800.
    The F650 GS is $7500.

The next step up from these is the R1100 and 1150 lines.
    The R1100S MSRPs for $12,890
    The R1150R MSRPs for $10,990
    The R1150R Rockster is $11,450

The New R1200RT is $17,050. The old R1150RT was $16,590. That's a +/- $500 difference between the old and new models.

I would imagine that they will put the new R1200 S in at somewhere around $13,500 or so. This guessing would put the new R1200R in at about $11,500.

There is no way that the F800S would be priced as high as the R1200R or 1200S. BMW seems to be pitching this as it's "entry level" sport bike. I would guess that the pricing will be around $9,000 to $9,500 or so.

Now, mind you, this is all edumacated guessing , so take that for what it's worth!

Regardless, I am very excited as BMW continues to roll out the new lines. I can not wait to see the new R1200R line. I love the R1150 based series, and if the don't mess it up too badly, the R1200 series ought to be pretty cool.

If it came in below 9 it would be a very tempting prospect. Currently I am thinking about getting an sv650s (which I know is not a direct competitor).
