Very disapointed...my jetta 2.0T felt like a better car to drive, much more fun, more power, more comfortable, fit and finish seemed better and the car actualy felt stiffer, so i guess il be sticking with vag! I was honestly very surprised, i really expected the bmw to drive better

I can't the only one that was thinking of this car and was thinking "WTF did you expect? " up until I read it was a BMW he was talking about.

You drove one of the worst BMWs ever made, and you are disappointed.

As I've mentioned in another 323 thread.

Ugly wheels, ugly reflector headlights and horrible in-person.

At least go for a 328i. I would save up for a 335i though.

    Since we're on the subject.

Also like to add to some responses from the other thread(you know who you are), including changing the wheels and optioning a bit more like HiDs.

Well, that would be money down the drain because all 323i's I've seen had the small wheels & reflectors(99% chance are leased) and shouldn't really increase the resale...

Are you serious? I can think of a few models that are less than complimentary to the BMW badge (like the 318 TI). My brother had a 2000 323 with the sport package and that thing stuck like glue to the road. There is more to life than just horsepower, you know.

The 323 is the redheaded stepchild of the E46's. Dont tell me it was an automatic too.

How was the ride/handling tho? It's probably a car where you'd have to spend a good few hours in it to really understand why you pay more money for it.... That being said the new Jetta IS quite good.

Meh, spend the $1500 and get the sport package... then you get the better wheels.

What do you mean by reflector headlights? AFAIK all BMW's use a projector lenz to perform optical correction... I've never seen a BMW use a reflector for low beam... I think even their old cars used projectors. I think you meant halogen lights, instead of Xenon gas-discharge lighting... this should be the only difference... and you can buy bulbs that give you that Xenon look anyways.

Would make NO sense for BMW to have two different headlamps... way cheaper to use a different projector lenz for either halogen or Xenon application.

I was one of the ones who initially thought Mazda 323 too. But beyond that, I think some people are confused about what generation BMW 323i this is a review of. In Canada, the E90 is available as a 323i with, as I recall, the E46 325i's engine. The E46 was also available as a 320i with a 2.2l I6.

I'm assuming, noting the OP's location, and references to the BMW being new, that they drove an E90 323i.

Anyway, for what it's worth, the BMWs the magazines love are all "Sport Package" cars with the sport-tuned suspension. Test-driving a non-sport-package car is never quite as nice.

    Mike

I see 3 or 4 323i's everyday. All of them (except a few) are reflector halogens.

A lot of European BMWs are Reflector Halogens....

    I thought he was looking for a 335i coupe/S5.

    How'd it turn into this?

My guess is that he probably didn't.

I drove a 323i Touring about 6 months ago and I found the car to be simply brilliant. No, it probably won't win any "real man's battles", such as red-light races, but it is more than powerful enough to get you going VERY fast and enough torque for overtaking.

The model I drove, was automatic too.

I really think that you people are spoiled rotten and cannot appreciate anything that has less than 300HP.

It was never the case. It was introduced with a detuned version of the European newer generation 2.5L (there the 325i has a real 2.5L) at 174HP in 2006 and boosted to 200HP in 2007.

Honestly, whatever some kids will whine despite they never drove it, 200HP is plenty enough for most enthusiasts.

Well i have to say I test drove the e46 325Ci before I got my car and it was well powered, no problem getting around these hills. My 330Ci is better, but its also more expensive. I don't know if I agree with the premium they charge.

This is for sure, if I were to buy a new 3er I would not get the turbo engine.
