Thread: EURO 2008

  1. 03-01-2008 01:53 PM #1

Summer is just around the corner and so is EURO 2008. So I opend this topic to see who do you guys think is going to win it and why? I am going to go with England hehehe j/k. I really think Italy has the best squad in Europe right now but there is always Germany, France, Holland, Czech, Portugal etc who have good teams as usual but I think someone like Romania who played amazingly during the qualifiers could make a huge run. My final answer would have to be Italy.

Anyway, lets see what you guys think.

I'm tempted to say Germany but in all honestly, it's a total crapshoot.

  5. 03-03-2008 02:38 PM #5
If Kninsmann stayed as their head coach I think they would take it too but since he's not I don't think so. Last couple of years their best playmaker Ballack is playing like crap, so we'll see.

One thing is for sure though, i'm sure glad England is OUT !!!

True, and they couldn't even beat us (Serbia) in middle of Lisabon 1-1

    Go Germany!!

Low is a good coach as well, and I think some of their younger players are really starting to mature - Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Gomez, etc...

    I'll go with:
    A-Portugal & Czech
    B-Germany & Croatia
    C-Netherlands & Italy
    D-Spain & Greece

Almost want to say Austria instead of Croatia but I'll stick with it.

I'd LOVE to see Spain win it all, but I just don't see it happening.

I was hoping that the Netherlands would have a good showing BUT being in the group of death who knows what will happen and who will come out of there

    ^^^^

    poland - germany

I can't wait to see that match, i hope there's going to be some World Cup payback

I'd love to see Spain finally win something but I doubt it.

I'm going with Germany only because the have the easiest Group and should have no issues locking it up early and resting for the knockout stages.

    Group A:
    1) Portugal
    2) Czech (Turkey may challenge for this spot, but I doubt it)

    Group B:
    1)Germany
    2)Croatia

    Group C:
    1)Italy
2)France (realistically, but I'd rather see the Dutch go through)

    Group D:
    1)Spain
    2)Sweden

It's completely easy to believe if you aren't Polish (that's not meant as a Polish-joke). Granted there's no crappy teams at these tournaments and anything can happen so they could make it since they are a solid team, but there's no reason to actually expect Poland to do it.
    As far as I'm concerned:
-Germany is a favourate to win the whole thing, easily one of the top 4 teams.
-Croatia was the same before losing the guy who scores all of their goals. Probably not a favourate to win now, but still good enough to get out of the group.
-Austria will probably play good, just like home teams always do.

hmmm lets look at some of their scores from the qualifiers

    Poland - Finland 1:3
    Poland - Serbia 1:1
    Kazahstan - Poland 0:1
    Armenia - Poland 1:0
    Finland - Poland 0:0
    Serbia - Poland 2:2

looking at some of their group qualifying results I would say they don't even deserve to go to Euro Cup but since they are better then Serbia and Finland
(even though they didn't beat any of those teams) they were pretty much the only option to go through....

The only match that I'm looking forward to with Poland is against Germany.
That's going to be good game, even though Germany is lot stronger. But I'll be going for Poland anyway in that match .

    cheers

What you just did is play with the numbers right there in order to back up your argument....you chose the worst games and decided to argue them. Why don't you just post them all? You would have failed my Business Research Methods class pretty bad...

That's hardly a spectacular record. All the teams that qualified have done that well, you flat out don't qualify if you don't. Qualifying is all that matters so they did well, but don't go thinking that makes them a favourite.
