Thread: MWerks 1 Series Open House a Success

The first day of March was a brief but critical break from the exceptionally long Chicago Winter of 2008. For a few hours, the sun came out and the sky stopped dumping on us long enough for MWerks' staff to hold a brief get-together in honor of the new 1 Series. Still weeks away from their official release, a 135i coupe and a 128i convertible managed to find themselves in the newly christened workshop/photo studio of Vortex Media Group, the parent company of MWerks.

Poor weather wouldn't have hampered the indoor gathering altogether, but it certainly would have prevented the arrival of our special guest, the 1973 BMW 2002 tii owned by Paul Gajda, who was kind enough to bring his beautiful Baikal Blue coupe out of storage to serve as the spiritual link to BMW's newest small car series. Also on hand was MWerks' Project 318is, another link in the chain of small, sporty coupes from Bavaria.

In total, a couple dozen BMW fans stopped in throughout the day to check out the cars, take in some refreshments and talk with other enthusiasts. Some of those who attended already have their cars on order and took advantage of the opportunity to sit in the cars for the first time. Others arrived on the fence about whether or not to place an order, with the overwhelming majority feeling confident in their decisions to proceed with an order. As things were winding down at the end of the day, staff offered rides to a few of the remaining visitors.

Thanks to all who attended, and special thanks to Paul Gajda for trusting the forecast long enough to share his car with us.

    Guys,

It was great to see the 128 and 135 plus a very fine 2002 that got the whole thing started.

I am looking forward to reading more about your project 135 and also finaly getting to drive one at my dealer this month.

    Thx for hosting us!

    Cheers!
