What would I do? I'd drive the 350Z.![]()
I have decided that my current beater is becoming a liability to my wallet and is no longer dependable on a daily basis. After a few sudden breakdowns and a few hundred $$$ later I will park it sometime this summer and replace it.On the shortlist are the obvious (Civic,Accord,Mazda 3,etc) I could consider something such as an 03-04 with higher mileage and no warranty while saving a few thousand $$$, or a more recent off-lease vehicle such as a CPO and buy with more confidence.
I plan to keep the car for some time (at least 10yrs) so the overall maintenance and reliability are a factor.I have my fun vehicles with the 350Z and the bike so a simple to own hatchback or sedan would likely fit the bill. Just giving those factors and with the budget in mind what are your opinions an a good candidate and any experience with said vehicle if any?
In short WWYD?

years over mileage for priceother then that, preference over dependability/reliability for choice
the farther the distance between your daily and fun car the better in my opinion.
12K? i'd buy something for 7-8K, and put the rest aside for tools and maintenance.
Yea, unless you're heavily modded, isn't the 350z a perfect DD? I would think so... but if you need space (I'm assuming)... then early 2000s Volvo wagon? I think you can have a high(er) mileage one, with a turbo, for around your price range. Maybe even 100k miles certified as well, from a Volvo dealer. I'm pretty certain that the 2000s and earlier are decently bulletproof... plus they are well rounded, very comfortable, and have damn good stereos![]()

Buy an '06 or '07 Focus and pocket the difference for toys.

Press vehicle this week: 2011 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback
Nissan Sentra 1.8 Automatic with 14" (but wide) Falken Azenis. In white and it has to have a STIG JR fake plate mounted off-center on the front (which will probably get stolen). It can chirp it's tires in 3rd gear and still get 45 MPG while beating New Beetles in stoplight races.
Forum software seems better. Trying to sell my 99.5 TDI with 220k miles.

I actually drove a late model (06) Sentra, I could not get over how uncomfortable the seating was in that car. The lack of lumbar support and I had the seat all the way back and I could not relax my legs. It was just not something I would get used to on a daily basis. An unexpected problem that not even a 93 Geo gives me, who'd a thought?

2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon 2.5i. Get the manual.
Whatever years they made the Mazda 6 wagonHey if the other car is a 350z, why not get something with space?
I probably don't know what I'm talking about (but I know more than you)

Annoying proselytizing statement.
Thanks for the feedback so far, the Subaru and Hyundai are two options I haven't considered.
That 07 V6 Sonota for $12,000 sounds like a good deal. Beats getting a Yaris or Accent!

+1
also a diesel jetta or passat wagon would be nice
Focus ZX3 + SVT suspension from Ford =![]()

Money saved from this can be put to good use in the Z.
Or if you don't want to go through all of that just find a clean Focus SVT and call it a day, lots of them with under 100k miles and can be found for less than $12k.

get something luxurious, yet dependable, like a 02 Acura TL or ES300
How long is your commute? I would just drive the Z. It's not going to go up in value.

Alucard -- Autonomous Legion of the Glue Factory...of Death.
If it were my money, and i wanted absolute reliability, i'd go for an Acura CL type-S
or if i wanted something more fun, and a little more expensive to insure, i'd go for a LS2, powered GTO!

Wow... you could have at least found a NON-ugly picture of the CL-S.... BTW, the slushbox TL/CL's have problems with the tranny.
I'd get a Honda Fit or a Mini cooper.![]()

it was a joke. I suppose you dont recall when the answer to everyones automotive needs was an E36 M3 in the Carlounge?I couldnt find the famous picture of the Extroil Blue Coupe Auto X-ing.
2003-06 Mazda6 Hatch - I would go for the i Model as a DD for better fuel economy1992-1998 323i/is and 318i/is - would go for a well kept 323 b/c it still gets good mpg yet isnt buzzy like the 318
2002-2005 SVT Focus (or even a ZX3/5) - with an aftermarket tune, these can acheive 33+ mpg (SVT)
93 Probe GT
97 Regal GS
Unless it has a shedload of miles, it's actually quite hard finding a used Fit for much less than MSRP. Low-mileage ones are usually listed for more than MSRP. It is crazy.
Annoying proselytizing statement.
That is crazy... I thought the first generation one would be around 11k or so being that they were around $15k new and by now there should be some with around 40 or 50k miles
MK2 GLi :thumb: and an :bow:E36 M3
Go for the exact opposite and buy a rolling living room, like a Crown Vic or something.
They have the Internet on computers now?

I actually drove one of these, a steal for only $8K. I noticed the 2nd gear shift and did some research. I found about about the tranny issues and decided a potential 3K dollar repair job was the deal breaker.
