      Tires rubbing wheel well

I got some new wheels and tires recently and they're a bit wider than the stock ones.. I notice that there is a slight bit of rubbing on wide right or left turns either in drive or reverse. But the weird thing is it only rubs once in a while. Sometimes it rubs, sometimes it doesn't... What could be some ways I could fix this besides getting a less wide of a tire.

If you ain't rubbin, you ain't oldsmobilin'!

Er, maybe your car's springs are worn out a bit - you could get some stiffer coils that raise your car up a bit.

Or, you could roll your fenders! This will make your fenders rust faster though.

      Man, I expected a Mk3 or Mk4 Jetta or Golf/GTI — but a Cutlass Ciera!

Is it rubbing the fender or the shock/strut tower?

To be honest I have no clue. I just know it rubs the shock/strut on super wide turns.. The tires/wheels are a slight bit smaller in diameter than the 14" stock wheels, except they're a bit wider. Stock are 185/75/14 and I have 205/45/17. When I mean wide turns, I mean like having to turn the wheel completely as far as you can to one side.

You did not need to expand on your prior posts. We already understand. Park the car with the wheel at full lock.... if you have 1/2"+ of space to the fender... put 5mm spacers behind the wheel to move it approx a 1/4" away from the shock. Problem solved.

Okay. When the suns out so I can see what I'm doing, I'll take a look. Thanks for the help guys.. Now if for some reason there isn't enough room, would the only other solution be switching from 205/45/17 to 195/45/17? Because as far as I know, they don't make 185 width tires in 17"

You mean sharp turns. If I make a wide turn, I wouldn't be turning the steering wheel all the way.... the turn wouldn't be wide if I do. The turning radius isn't wide if you cut the wheel all the way.

I would like to see pictures of said Oldsmobile with ill fitting wheels. I can only imagine what 17" wheels look like on a Cutlass Ciera.

And for the record, my first car was a 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme. The mod I did to it was put punk band stickers all over the bumper and bounce off crubs.

I really don't see how any "modern" aftermarket wheel can look good on a Cutlass.

Who knows, I may be surprised.

This will make your fenders rust faster though.

So instead of taking the advice of TCL and getting larger OEM wheels that fit properly (not to mention look good), you decided to get ugly, ill fitting custom wheels anyways?
