Interesting. I imagine whether or not this thing meets the NYC Taxi laws and standards will be big to its success or failure.BTW Does anyone know if Ford is showing their new police car in Chicago?
2010 Ford Transit Connect Taxi: 2010 Chicago Auto Showhttp://www.insideline.com/ford....html
Quote » CHICAGO — Today Ford unveiled a taxi version of its 2010 Transit Connect utility van that will go on sale in late 2010. In addition to its reconfigured interior, the Transit Connect Taxi will also offer fleet operators the option of running the vehicle on compressed natural gas or propane. "While meeting with taxi operators in cities throughout the U.S., we found considerable interest for vehicles that run on alternative fuels," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "The Transit Connect Taxi, combined with an engine modified by Ford to use CNG/LPG, is designed to meet that need. This marks a new era in 'green' transit."
Ford also announced that it will offer alternative fuel capability across the Transit Connect lineup. Ford already offers a similar option for its full-size Econoline vans. Ford says that a standard Transit Connect Taxi will offer a 30 percent fuel savings over most traditional taxis.
The interior of the Transit Connect Taxi was reconfigured for additional passenger room by moving the first-row seat back 3 inches. Auxiliary climate controls were also added to the rear seat area, along with additional windows. Ford also partnered with a company called Creative Mobile Technologies to offer a passenger information screen that can be used to show maps, TV programming and payment information.

I can't imagine it not meeting NYC regs. That said, it also needs a wooden bead seat cover standard.

It's a Jeep thing. I understand now.
So Transit Connect is available in CNG/LPG now? Another California HOV lane eligible car for long distance commuters...Ford is also unveiling the EV Transit Connect at the Chicago show. I guess this makes Transit Connect the first car in the US to be sold in 3 different propulsion options (gasoline, CNG, pure EV).
Go Ford.![]()
Good fuel economy and a good amount of space, it's a plus in my book. I seen them out on the road, these things ain't bad. Good for small businesses and advertisement on a budget.
They've been using them as cabs here for at least 2 months......

Without the Vic Ford definitely designed this to replace the Vic as the go-to cab in Manhattan. They need to offer it with a hybrid.
Where the F is the CAMPER version? I can visualize:
1) Extending/Retracting roof tent sleeping area like Vanagons.
2) Small kitchenette hung on rear doors (gas grill, etc.).And some tree-hugging paint job.

Ford Escape Hybrid is pretty common in NYC

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Interesting this didn't happen ten years ago really. What have rising fuel prices done for the average NYC cabby? Running a Crown Vic on low wages day in day out must be entertaining.

Is it horrible that I actually want to own a Transit Connect Wagon?
Weak engine but found a turbo kit that will make around 220hp to the wheels![]()
I are serious! What Ford NEEDS to do (in order to MILK this bitch for every ounce) is get with some capable conversion van companies and/or trailer/camper companies and offer to work with them in order to provide WIN to my Ford stocks!!!!
Seriously, though... how easy is that?
1) Americans like space, still.
2) Americans are starting to appreciate FE more.
3) Americans are whores to things fashionably cool.Por ejemplo...
a) Go to JoeConversionVan, Inc.
b) Sell the ideas above.
c) Make a concept for an autoshow that includes:
>>>Captains chairs
>>>Satelite internetz
>>>Cool painjob
>>>Groovy feature-rich interior
>>>Trimmed in fashionable attire (don't ask me what)
d) Give a loaner version to some celeb that meets similar lifestyle ideals.Ejemplo dos...
a) Go to Airstream.
b) Sell the ideas above.
c) Make a concept including what many of us here have suggested already with a camper version.
d) Give loaner to CLer to drive around NA and make a blog.
Dear Ford,MILK DIS BITCH!!!!
