County is out digging the ditches again today. They close one lane of the two lane road with flaggers on each end. Flagger gives me the go-ahead so I go through, about 25 mph. One of the workers walking in the closed lane area gives me the "slow down" both hands pushing down sign, so I brake some. Now I'm doing maybe 20. Guess it wasn't slow enough for him because then he gives me the "WTF" hands up sign as a pass him by.

If you want me to go a particular speed in your construction zone, you should post a sign. Otherwise I'm going to pick a speed I think is appropriate and if you don't like it well tough cookies.

Maybe he was just having a bad day.

I wanted to have a fire and drink copious amounts of beer tonight. The weather is shyte.

I also wanted to split more wood tomorrow. Need to clear out my yard before we have 75 people over in a month for a belated 1st birthday party for midget #2. The weather is shyte.

It is actually going to be nice this weekend. Dropping almost 20* to the low 70s and no rain. Well most likely no rain.

He's a history buff and ex radio host who does deep dives into a given topic. That podcast is called Hardcore History. WW1, The Eastern front of WW2, etc. The most recent was the dawn of the nuclear age through the 60s. Basically, he just tells you an extremely dense, in-depth story on a given topic in history. I think the WW2 series is like six 4-hour parts or something bonkers. Intimidating, but worth it.

His Common Sense podcasts are shorter (~1hr), and are put out monthly-ish. I mentioned before, he's an independent. He used to be a democrat but has morphed into a fiscal conservative/social liberal who believes in a certain degree of social safety nets and looks beyond the immediate implications of political moves. He'll call out both sides. The right for, well, everything right now. Then he'll point out how Obama's supporters were fine when he used EOs to pass stuff they liked and were blind to the fact they were increasing presidential power. The prophets of doom is a good one to start with. It's a single episode (4.5 hours), so should be perfect for your drive.

Fair warning...his delivery takes a little getting used to. He can be over the top intense sometimes. He can read a boring old quote and give it a lot of dramatic effect. Must be the talk radio days coming through.

We have to mulch this year too. Ugh.

We also get it dumped in truckloads.

I think we did 11 yards 2 years ago? Does that sounds right? I can't remember.

We need to mulch but I have 60+ year old Silver Maple in the backyard with about 45 million helicopter seed pods hanging in there. Mulching will have to wait until those F'ers drop.

I had a bunch of 8 hour drives when I was handling some family affairs last year, and I knocked out the WWI episodes in a few weeks. Get in the SS, set cruise control to 80, and laugh at how people acted like idiots 100 years ago and how similar it is to how we act today.

Also, I bought a six pack of Denoginizer on my way home after the train. Lady called to say she's going out with a friend, so I bought myself some gyro's, and got denogged. Holy crap my 5am wake up call sucked, and it's hard to believe I've been at work for two hours already.

We've reduced how much we mulch except for in a few spots. We have a dozen or so white pines that drop a blanket of needles. The ones on the lawn get mulched and/or bagged, but the ones in the flower beds around the trees tend to create a thick needle blanket that chokes out the weeds.

My summer project this year is getting the outdoors in order. I bought a tow behind dethatcher, will be testing the soil soon to see if I need to put down lime, will be more diligent in my fertilizer schedule, etc. The back is a mess and needs more work. I have a firepit back there so i need to start working on my burn pile. We're also looking at getting a deck put in. We've got a big concrete slab around the pool, but a deck would really help with the usable outdoor space.

Anyone have recommendations on materials? Are composites better than the first gen stuff? We get 4 seasons here, so temp changes are a thing. I'm looking to get it done right from the get go. Run the gas line for the grill, built in benches on one side, 2 staircases, etc.

Are you on IG? No idea if PMs work like an email chain with multiple users, but IG could work instead of a new app. Then pics of said beers we're looking for or have to trade would be easy to send.
