Looking fwd to when hyundai and or kia offer a replacement to the Genesis coupe. That will be something to get excited about!
This is a lot sexier than the Genesis imo and appeals more to enthusiast dads on TCL who want a sporty midsized sedan at a good price. The Genesis is more of a Lexus competitor.

If you told me this was a $100k+ car, I wouldn't bat an eye. Absolutely amazing. If the chassis is anywhere as good as the styling, watch out. Wow.

Is it an enthusiast car? Sure, the name suggests some level of sporting intention, but the biggest challenge for both Hyundai/Kia is chassis tuning. I like the interesting and sporty look of the veloster, but almost no one actually considers it a legitimate contender against enthusiast cars like the GTI or civic Si.

Looks interesting but I hate shape of those taillights. It spoils the rear for me.

Only part I really dislike aside from Kia's corporate face in general is that rear reflector on the QP.

I know it's from the concept, but it's mighty awkward looking in photos...hopefully it's a bit more cohesive in person.

Kia makes some of the nicest cars in the market. Too bad there isn't an available manual + cammed pushrod V8 option though.

Less than what? The amount of people who wanted to sit on top of a dead animal in 2016?

Also, how many less? 2 per day on average?

You asked why people are more excited by this than the Genesis, and I answered based on assumptions (I'll grant you that). It looks sportier and they mention benchmarking sporty small sedans with lap times and G forces. Is this something you've read in a Genesis sedan V6 press release? I think we can infer that this will at least have some chassis chops.

The Veloster is also a re-skin of the Accent bones. Being a cheap car it lacks any margins to allow for significant chassis changes.

Meanwhile this new Stinger is based on a RWD platform and being more expensive should allow more accounting wiggle room to inject some sport.

Fantastic looking car in my opinion - my favorite of the Detroit debuts. it's very much what I was shopping for last year when looking for a new car - wagons or 5-door hatchbacks with decent power and AWD...this would have definitely been on the shopping list - though price will play a big part for me. If it's in the same price range as the Genesis sedan with AWD, I'd definitely prefer the design of this car. Lots of derivative looks here, but all complimentary - whiff of Germanic muscle to the front, whiff of Jag from the side profile, very Italianate rear-end design...all comes together very nicely.

Sad to say, the worst element of the car I can see is the badge. Nothing against Kia as a manufacturer, but the badging is highly uninspired and makes the car feel more downmarket, with just that big 3-letter word. They could really use some kind of symbol like the Genesis wings to move the image more upmarket I think. Still, I'd buy this.

If I were in the market for one of these(I'm definitely not), first thing I'd do is pull those chrome side scuttles off and have them painted body color.

It's definitely better. Not the greatest symbol, but for me better than the name in an oval.

Based on Kia's history, I'd say unlikely. $$ spent on styling will need to be absorbed somewhere else if it's going to be sold well under the competition's price point.

nope. it looks good, but it looks like a few nice design elements, that weren't necessarily created by the same person, mixed together.
