GMC denali package vehicles are quite nice, its basically 90% of an escalade for 20-30k less.

Depreciation: Bought a CPO 2016 A6 w/4K miles in December. MSRP was $55K and I bought it for $38K. So yeah big hit on what was a 3 month old car but it's not unusual for the category.
Reliability: They are reliable. Bonus for my situation is that I basically got the full factory warranty minus 3 months and the CPO warranty on top of that so I'm covered for 6 years. Warranty or no warranty I'm not worried.
Longevity: These are cars you can live with for a long time and not get bored. Secondly, the cars wear very well and their designs age gracefully meaning in 7 years you'll have a car that won't feel old in any way.

Your example is really my point. That car was purchased in 2014, it's about 2.5 years old. It has higher than average mileage. It's also about a $70k car new, not an $80k car.

So no, I would not expect 50% value after two years on a reasonable comparison.

I bought my '15 S4 in Oct of '14 and stickered at $55k and change. Right now trade in is roughly $35k, private sale between $37k and $38k and as CPOs they're selling about $40k.

So in about 2 1/2 years, its held its value pretty well. So even at trade-in value, its worth about 63% of its original value.

Material quality is important when you are wedged against them in the back seat.

Not for BMW's. They subsidize the lease residuals to make leasing more attractive. When I had my E93, the lease buyout was $37,000 for my E93 328 and I could get a same year E93 CPO 335 for $32,000.

MIL has an '08 TT 3.2L that is beat to utter ****, and it is still solid and starts every time. Through a bad clutch and many small accidents.

I wouldn't advise buying one as an investment.

MIL much shorter than saying SO's mom by exactly 4 characters. Efficiency!

Those ugly exposed parking sensors are not luxury.

      3/10 would not buy.

There is no "L" in "Phantom".
