All that money just not enough class for a gold wrapped Enzo.

The deal was negotiated after the bidding stopped and the car failed to meet reserve. The $270,000 is probably a combination sales price plus a discounted buyers premium where the auction house gave up some portion of the premium to seal the deal. If the numbers are close it usually makes sense to work a deal to avoid shipping the car home and then going through the cost of putting it back up for auction.
So you're saying the auction house charges a $20,000 premium then on top of the $250,000 the car most probably sold for. What rip Whoever bought Hillary's 1986 Cutlass Ciera must have got a much better deal on it

This car gives me flashbacks to that terrible 90s DNC dance video.

He seriously strikes me as someone who hasn't actually driven since the early 80's, and probably got the car as a gift, or as part of some deal.

He seems more the person to be driven around. Especially since he has a small army of privately hired goons that have to ride shotgun.

It does look like he drives, if only occasionally. More in Florida. I'm sure the goon squad follows in SUVs. (Not now, obviously.)

I believe that they actually charge a seller premium plus a buyer premium. So if a car sells for $250,000 they collect $275,000 from the buyer (assuming 10% buyer premium) and give the seller $230,000 (assuming an 8% seller premium). If the car does not sell, they still collect the seller premium. The percentages vary based on number of factors such as the type/value of the car and the auction house involved. Auction houses that attract the best cars and buyers with the deepest pockets command the highest premiums.
Kind of surprised that they didn't lift the reserve once the bidding got so close in an attempt to fire up more bidding.

Same here, but I was actually impressed with this one -- I didn't see a single factual error or misstatement in the entire thing. Usually car articles in non-car publications are rife with them...
