Would ya? (high mileage, all-original Neon SRT4)

It's a 2005. Car is immaculate inside and out, and bone stock except for black Konig wheels and a homebrew CAI. No goofy suspension mods or anything like that. New clutch at 157K, now has 165K. Along with a major tune-up (plugs, radiator flush, etc) it has had the typical Dodge tie-rod ends, motor mounts and blah blah replaced relatively recently as well, all in one shot, which I like. Owner had it dynoed at 215 hp and 238 lb/ft.

My head says "run away" but my heart says bust open the piggy bank now.

It's $8K, which is on the high end of these cars based on my research, but I have it and the car is local. And it's blue, my favorite color of car.

      Not actual car, but close.

I wouldn't unless the owner has a folder of receipts to show maintenance history.
A pre-purchase inspection would in order as well, but what are the odds of finding a good indy mechanic in your area that's familiar with these.

Eight grand for a twelve-year-old Chrysler car that on its best day was a pile, that has 165K miles on it and a few replaced items on it. Let's see: It's blue, so there's that. And local. And... I'm out of pros here. But it's your money, even though there's got to be better, more compelling toys out there...

From everything I've read / heard from my buddy who owned one, it was a POS Neon in every way other than the drive train. And that drive train tries to break your forearms every time you step on it.
      And > 150k miles?

Background, I had a Caliber SRT4 so the low-rent Dodge crappiness isn't a big deal, or at least it doesn't surprise me. Crude, loud and fast as balls appeals to me.

His price is high though. I just miss having a fast car.

Get yourself a low mileage ls1.
Run a little more, but the miles tend to be 40k and under.

Must suck driving a 132 hp vehicle.

Problem is, a decent speed3, 8th gen Si or MK5 GTI is the same price with far fewer miles, and those are better cars. Granted, the GTI (whether you get FSI or TSI) and the MS3 have engine issues, and the Si doesn't have the mid-range punch that the others have. But seriously, 8 grand is 100-120K, 07-08 Si territory.

Are you prepared to make your rear passengers crank down their rear windows manually, like some peasant?

I had one of these 10 years ago, great car car for the money in those days, but I paid $14K when it had 4,000 miles on it. The price just seems too high for the mileage.

To get a good idea on what it's really worth, try to get a loan for it, even if you are buying it in cash, I'm gonna guess they won't give you $8K towards it.

      X...

I had an 04. Car was fast, loud ( I cut off everything but the dp) tuned before I bought it and upgraded a lot myself. Stupid fast, stupid loud, and fun. ****ty quality and car tbh. Fun af tho. I would NOT pay 8k for it, I paid 9.5 for mine in 08

That price seems really high for that mileage. And you say no goofy mods, but it has a home made CAI.

Price seems kind of high. I wouldn't mind having one though.

Yea, is homebrew a brand or is literally some home depot supplies under the hood?

I admitedly have a soft spot for these things as I wanted one in highschool when new, even got as far as negotiating a final price on paper at the dealer till my father said no you'll probably kill yourself.

SO, if you want it go for it but I'd offer $4500 and not go over $5000. That's only if theres paper work to back up the maintenance claims, the owner isn't a flatbill bro who likely beat on it, and it looks as good in person as it does in the pics.
