      I saw a Pontiac G8 GT today.

While driving to work this morning I passed a Pontiac G8 GT. It has been so long since I had seen one of these, I practically forgot they existed. I was left asking myself - did the automotive enthusiast community forget about them too?

I did a quick Google and here are the notables:
      - 100% Australian-developed chassis (they do big V8 sedans pretty well)
      - 6.0-liter L76 V-8 producing 361-hp
      - Six-speed 6L80 Hydra-Matic transmission
      - 5.3-second 0-60
      - 13.8 seconds at 104 mph 1/4 mile

      Example pictures:

The GXP is the one people care about.

So the GXP was essentially the predecessor to the Chevy SS. Where's the owner registry thread for that?

There's a large G8/SS community that's active here in DFW. Several hundred members. It's likely your location that's preventing you from seeing them. They have quite a following.

My boss owns a G8 GT. He's done an engine/transmission tune, intake, exhaust and headers and it dyno'd at ~400HP. He seems to really enjoy it.

OP, where do you live? These cars aren't that rare unless you're talking GXPs. The V6s are quite common.

Well, to be fair, you live in GM's backyard.

Personally, the last time I saw one was maybe months ago. RWD sedans without AWD options aren't very popular in the Northeast.

I see a lot here, generally driven by Army dudes. Most of them seem well taken care of, unlike Chargers owned by military types here.

      I've never seen a ratted out G8.

The amount of garbage Chargers and Magnums is hilarious here.

I'm in North Carolina. I suppose I'm just in a pocket of the country where everyone drives lame, beige cars.

Used with 100K miles they are close to or over $20K when I was looking a few months ago. They aren't forgotten. Still great looking.

I saw a V6 parked next to a GT in a parking lot last week.

I thought it was interesting but not "start a thread on TCL" interesting.

Damn, that interior looks really good for a domestic car at that time.

Yeah we've got 4 on base here. 3 GT's and 1 V6. The only one in "questionable" condition just has a dent in the door.

You aren't going to see many of these with only a 2 year run and the newest one being 8 years old.

correction, GXP is the only one TCL cares about...99.9% of TCL will complain no manual v8 sedans for sale and when they are available, still wont buy one

Your boss is BS'ing you unless its a GXP with 6.2. 360 to the tire max in a GT until the Displacement on Demand camshaft is replaced with something that lets the engine breath.

They can be had for about 14-16 K on the private market. I paid 23 for mine w/45 k miles CPO'd from a Cadillac dealer in NJ 3 years ago.

Technically its an import with a domestic bumper and badges. All cars were assembled down unda and shipped to the states as a Pontiac.
They're not too bad but lots of cheap hard plastic and the radio/HVAC controls are integrated into one unit. Upgrading the stereo is impossible without spending booku bucks on an Aussie unit or a separate touch screen device for HVAC + a new headunit. The sport interior like mine has red leather in the center of the seat and red rings around the speedo and tack which spices it up a little.

There are 2 GT's in my neighborhood. I briefly looked at these when last car shopping, but quickly realized that to get what I wanted would push me out of my budget.

Geez, I must really live in a bubble where I'm at based on the feedback here. I totally CSBed with this one.

Back to your regularly scheduled TCL...

That is amazing resale value for any car, let alone a Pontiac.

No, not at all! Threads like this are a good reminder of cars that are almost forgotten.

The cynical will say CSB. Just ignore that.
