#calexit leader leaves CA to live in Russia... Wut?

So was the whole thing a joke to begin with? How does a social democrat end up in Russia? Apparently the vice-president of the movement is quitting too... Is he moving to China, North Korea or Cuba?

In a farewell statement on the Yes California website, he discussed the difficulty his wife, a Russian national, has had with the U.S. immigration process and his frustration with what he describes as media efforts to undermine the campaign as well as “anti-Russian hysteria.”
“As I have stated in the past, I do not wish to live under the American flag. I do not wish to live under the American political system or within the American economic system. Regardless, I had long planned to eventually return to occupied California and struggle for her independence from the United States so we could build the kind of country that reflects our progressive values. However, while my frustration, disappointment and disillusionment with the United States remains, these feelings now point me in a different direction. I have found in Russia a new happiness, a life without the albatross of frustration and resentment towards ones’ homeland, and a future detached from the partisan divisions and animosity that has thus far engulfed my entire adult life.”

I certainly wouldn't want to be living here again, but I don't see what's so strange of someone to move there.

A lot of opportunity in China. I could see that.

      NK, isn't happening.

      Crib notes:
      He campaigned for Bernie
      He voted for Trump
He set up a makeshift embassy in Moscow in partnership with far-right Russian nationalists
He's been living in Russia for 7 months
      He's not pro-California progressive values, he's got a pro-Russia propaganda agenda

If he didn't want to live in the US, why even start CalExit when he could move?

Because a CA on it's own is better than the US. While I very much wanted it to happen I never thought it would, not first try at least. So time for plan B, just do our own thing and see what guts the Fed's have to do about it.

So the Russians hacked #calexit in addition to the election?

      That's Gold.

      Wait....

      You're serious, arent you?

You seriously think Ca would be better on it's own with Gov Brown at the helm?

      Come on.

Have you seen who is at the helm of the federal government? I'll take my chances with Gov Brown.

      All day everyday.

Jerry Brown would be a fantastic president if he weren't so old at this point.

Also Brown, Trump, etc are all short term in the grand scheme of things and it's not about them.

Opportunity to do what? IIRC you need a special visa to work in China and it isn't easy to get. OTOH, I think you can start your own business.

At this point I'd say Russia is for sure better than Altanta.

The politics have been a draw for awhile; now, the infrastructure is, too.

      I am now in Nevada.

Yes, I used to live in Commiefornia. For the first 35 years of my life. Then I woke up and got the hell out of there never to return (as a resident). I hate, HATE crossing the state line, but I have family and friends out there who I visit.
