Yeah, it's not like most people (even enthusiasts) need a newer, economical, practical daily driver

I bought one for the wife a few months ago, 2006 ZHP vert. Had 115k. everything works. needed a radiator and front control arm bushings but i was ready for all that stuff. Didnt care about man vs auto BC for wife. i really like the car personally.

Old is old. And relying on it as a daily driver - no thanks. Selling that Miata and getting it makes more sense. Double running $.

If you're OK with a small 4-seater and Bangle-era styling, it might be worth checking out an E88 128i. You still get a silky N/A I6, RWD, 50/50, cloth-top cabriolet but have the advantage of selecting from production that continued until 2013. M-sport pack gets you some of the performance goodies too. It seems ZHPs have been holding some value so you might be able to get something much newer for a similar price.

If you're looking for fun in a car, I'd say it would HAVE to have a manual. I've got a 6-spd 2011 Versa Hatch, and although everyone here seems to loath them, I can attest that the manual makes even the Versa fun to drive,.

so I'd keep the Miata and get an appliance car with a manual...

Exactly. Buy and enjoy it for what it is, but dumping all your cars snd making it your daily is idiotic.

$7k cash. It was in really good shape. bought it 400 miles away and drove it home. had new michelins on it. Looked as though it had been garaged all its life. All regualr maintenance was up to date sans the radiator and LCAB's. Had a clean carfax as well. My wife drives it every other day.

Thanks all. I'm heading down to look at it this afternoon. We'll see. I would love to find a manual 1-series convertible (if I'm going to pay more, I'm going to compromise less), but there are exactly 4 within 500 miles of me on autotrader. The closest is 100 miles away and is at the tippy top of my price range for an almost out of warranty car.

Well, the car is pretty damn spotless. He added a sprint booster to help with throttle response, which is noticeable. It's not a manual, but I didn't mind the auto as much as I thought I would. It doesn't have any of the e46 vert quirks I was expecting like clicking windows or clunks from the roof. Shocks and cooling system have not been done.

He was a very straight forward seller. I'm gonna sleep on it, but at the moment my gut is telling me I can always buy another Mazda6. Another plus, I spoke with dear old dad tonight and he is interested in "buying" the Miata (I'd give it to him). That way it would stay in the family. We'll see.

Automatic might not be a bad thing considering type of car (previously owned convertible).

I don't know man. I would not be able to stomach ditching everything and going auto-only, but that's me.

Ooh, I like 1 series. But they are a great deal of money, an E46 is less than half of that.

This. It's one thing to have an auto daily and a fun car, but none? I even get bored if my daily is an auto (granted, I've never driven a DSG type transmission)
