Our top local burger place is Worthy Burger/Worthy Kitchen. Grass-fed organic beef, ground on site, homemade condiments, etc.. Cooked on a wood fired grill. They make their fries in duck fat. Also lots of craft beers if that's your thing.

Too expensive for a quick bite but it's great every once in a while.

5 guys is OK at best. Not many local places to choose from here. There is the Park Diner in Saint Cloud that does a great job with traditional diner-style fare.

Good point on location. We don't have some of the burger joints we're talking about around here. We used to have Fuddrucker's, before they want Tango Uniform, and they were okay, at least the one I'd stop at.

So, we have Five Guys, a Wahlburger, and what, like Red Robin? We do have some amazing non-chain sit-down places with awesome burgers, but we're talking fast-food chains. Just single burger joints is a complete new thread, there'd be a bunch to list.

Oh, hell yes. We have an A&W locally in our little city. Much awesomeness. I just roll for carry-out, though, since I won't let my wife and kid take on chili dogs and fries in the car. I'm not that crazy.

All the same stuff.

Not fast food, but Umami burger is the best burger.

You forgot the most important thing: Thousand Island. My go-to for these is Rick's Drive-In in Silverlake. It's exactly as you describe:

Btw, in 2008, I was in DC and had my first Five Guys meal just before hanging out with TCLer AKADriver. It was snowing and I was the only customer. When the workers found out I was from LA, they watched me eat and then asked if it was better than In-n-Out. I said yes.

I lied. In-n-Out is way better . We have Five Guys out here now and I never go, but I love me mah In-n-Out!

Unlike 5 guys, In n out by comparision is still considered regional. Useless article and reporting from Fortune magazine.

In-n-out ruins burgers with their stupid sauce. Yes, you can ask for it without, but it still is a mediocre burger.

I miss InO from my Summer in LA. We have lots and lots of 5G's around here. They're good, but InO is much better IMO - everything tastes better and seems more fresh.

A meal at In n Out is half the price of a meal at Five Guys. They're also completely different. But sure let's compare.

This. Except the sauce and hype cover up the mediocrity.
