That's a big deal considering the record was broken with the chicanes.

So before Kamu-san's record lap, this was the previous lap record???

That was 1990 which was the first year with the chicanes. I understand that the wastegate was stuck closed during that lap

      Kamu-san's record lap:

It would have been nice to see Kamu-san's arm movement and compared to Mark Blundell's. I bet Blundell's arms were like jelly after that lap.

So, Toyota should win this year*

*provided they don't break down on the last lap

no, Porsche beat the record in 2015 (which was previously set in 2008):

Both Neel Jani and Timo Bernhardt clocked qualifying times in the latest Porsche 919 Hybrid that eclipse the previous record. At 3:16.887 and 3:17.767, both Porsche factory works drivers beat the record 3:18.51 qualifying time achieved by Stéphane Sarrazin in the Peugeot 908 back in 2008.

Rightly so, I went in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Wish I could go again, it is an absolute blast. Of course, it was much easier to get there living in the UK than it is from the US.

Ruh-oh. Looks like Toyota's pit strategy could be compromised if the ambient temperature reaches a certain point: https://www.motorsport.com/lemans/ne...e-mans-919014/

With weather forecasts predicting high ambient temperatures over the race weekend, teams have been reminded about regulation 10.10.3, which dictates a limitation of continuous driving time to 80 minutes when ambient temperatures reach 32°C.
      32 Celsius is 89.6 F.

Toyota has no a/c while Porsche does. But I thought all closed cockpit cars, prototypes and GT must have a/c.

I think they don't have to have AC if they can get the cabin temp to a certain degree utilizing outside airflow. though, at 90F i sure as hell wouldn't want to be in an ambient air cooled cabin wrestling a tub around a circuit at speed. i sweat buckets just getting my mail

I'm guessing if the rule makers invoke the temperature rule, Toyota have to crank up their race pace to near qualifying pace to make up for lost time in the pits? And picking up the pace would open them up to driver error and/or mechanical issues.

two Youtube streams for anyone without access or that didn't pay:

      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPv...PR-_81Wnhjaqtg

      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdd...0_hxXJE5WOeXUA

the official steam is only €9.99 for the whole race (actually whole Le Mans weekend), so it's worth buying.

      trackside without audio:

really think I need to upgrade from 46" to a 55" 4k television. planning on staying up for the whole race, since it's miserably hot outside.

Epic fail for the WEC website. Guess they assigned all the resources to the app.
