Please point to an official public statement from a court or judicial authority that the location set, not merely the stations themselves, is part of the punishment.

Otherwise you're just interpreting it through your own lens.

You can pick up some drugs or hookers while charging.

      But seriously...

I got off I-40 in east Knoxville one time due to heavy traffic because game just let out (dumb me driving thru right then).. I ended up right in the hood at night.
(this was before I had a smart phone/nav)
I pulled in to the first gas station I saw, walked in, and the young woman behind the counter looked me up and down through the security bars and said "you need directions out of the hood, right?"

But the poor don't drive electric cars?

I know this idea is good for the "feelz" but in reality its just another pointless penalty to VW from the climate cultists. These stations will go unused. Next Commiefornia will have VW giving out free e-Golfs to the poor just to use these things....

Used electric cars are rapidly dropping in price and incredibly affordable. We're actively trying to put charging stations in low income neighborhoods so that they can benefit from electric only vehicles. Giving them advantages not normally afforded to them. Which in turn, helps lower their monthly expenses (ie fuel) to help them move up. I don't have the time or patience to even crack into the systematic racism that this plan is trying to undo.

No the article does not explicitly say that (nor should it IMO) but it does mention this initiative is part of VW's $2 billion clean vehicle pledge to the state which in part is to "atone" for diesel gate.

Plus, this is the kind of overly zealous parental hand slapping California likes to do.

It'll be interesting if something actually happens and someone sues VWOA and VWOA sues California.

Torrance? That's not so bad. I thought they were gonna be in Watts or Compton.

      Wat?
Now this was a superior machine. Ten grand worth of gimmicks and high-priced special effects. The rear windows lit up with a touch like frogs in a dynamite pond. The dashboard was full of esoteric lights and dials and meters that I would never understand.

I hope it is going to be a high wattage charger so I don't have to wait for my watts while in Watts.

You can just relax and listen to some music. Like listening to Waits while waiting for watts in Watts.

      Or something.

Sadly, though, I agree that we may see vandalizing and theft of some of them.

I seriously doubt California is going to force VW to put charging stations in dangerous spots.
(you Cali haters sometimes lose your mind)
Such a charging station could help the immediate community economy- bringing in customers and revenue.
Being on the leading edge of gentrification could actually pay off for VW as these areas change.

Don't argue with him because he doesn't understand the difference - after all, he is/was a high school english teacher.

High school english teachers are all knowing and are ALWAYS right, especially when they start an inane internet discussion to prove their contempt of poor and minority folks (along with hatred of the government).

Clearly as someone living 3,000 miles away, he has a vested interest in where charging stations are being placed southern California.

Looks like the posters in comfortable white suburbia & flyover Murica are confused as what low income neighborhoods are like. It's not all Chicago gun violence.

I live in an area that is probably considered low income because it's primarily Latinos earning $30K or less. But there are also new $700K condos popping up and hipster coffee shops. Public EV chargers might boost gentrification. The Latinos here usually live in large extended households with pooled resources. One person earning $25K might not buy an EV but here 4-6 income earners collectively spending money might.

I don't even remember high school English class.

What did students do in English class? Why would there be a need for a class?

I read the article, but the new EV stations seem to be for places with more air pollution than my area has. I was hoping we'd get one, but I can't find a public map of the proposed stations.

There are a lot of electric cars here, both EV and PHEV. Our electricity comes from natural gas, wind, nuclear (ending soon) and increasingly solar. We already have plenty of low-income people with EV. I have not yet seen anyone living in an EV, but it is only a matter of time.

Truth be told, there's not many cars with lower TCO than Volt/Leaf/presumably Bolt
