"Fastest Viper in the world" with an 8.9x?

      My friend Sal would have a little something to say about that;

If I remember right the building is owned by one of the owners of Charter Plastics. If I remember I'll ask my in-laws who it is. At one point both vehicles were for sale, although one was rumored to be blown up not sure which. Sorry you had to drive through the ****ty town thankfully I live on the out skirts and not in it.

I grew up 15 min or so from there. I forget the train store but it's right down the road from the PA Railroad Museum and Strasburg Railroad. It's HUGE, and in the same plaza as Isaacs sandwich shop.(Google says Strasburg Train Shop, but I don't recall.) All my Tomy plastic trains came from there, every Sunday I got to pick out another or extra track . Don't forget the National Toy Train Museum in Strasburg too. All my Marklin HO stuff came from Germany or from a small train store in SEPA that was based in a train car . Still have my Marklins, but I have Kato N scale and was ready to start a layout in the basement. Sadly I am going to be moving so didn't want to build something to just tear it down. Kato steamers are just so smooth, and I love P42s. I also inherited a huge HO steam collection. I need to test them all etc, but don't have any DC HO track lol. Right now my prized HO AHM Rivarossi Big Boy just sits next to my TV lol.

I grew up with Strasburg Railroad and the Knox and Kane Railroad. I'll never forget the day the tornado took out the Kinzua Viaduct. I have the newspaper clippings still sad to think about. Was such an amazing scenic ride, especially behind a steam locomotive. Now the only remnants of their shops, storage and railyard is the tiny station and partial roundhouse in Marienville.

      Well.....

The Venom 1000 was built in 2006.

"Your friend" Sal 6 second barrier in, what? 2012?

So for 6-ish years that probably was the fastest viper in the world. And I doubt the car has been touched since Sal broke the barrier.

Sal's been getting it done for a LONG time in that car. He was running 7.7x in '08, I will ask him when he first started on the build, it may have been even earlier than '06.

There is a hobby shop where I grew up in Manchester, CT that has a big backroom with model trains of various gauge. No idea if things have changed but years ago they did weekend tours back there and once in awhile had a ride along with locomotives from the local rail operator. The ride was less exciting than my childhood expectations as operating a train seemed to be all about accelerate/idle/don't fall asleep. Shop is call The Time Machine and might be worth a trip during special events.

I grew up slowly building up an HO set every holiday would move the setup upstairs to provide rail service to my mothers Christmas village collection. Sadly everything was lost to water damage when the basement flooded during Sandy.

Anyway... back to old Dodge cars.

Maybe fastest turnkey example you could buy?

It's fu**ing Hennessy. The car in the picture probably never actually ran an 8.93, and even if it had, it probably wouldn't have broken any records. Hennessy never did (and still doesn't, to this day) let facts get in the way of marketing.

To me, this situation reeks of "please steal my agreed-upon value insured rare collector car so I can collect the insurance proceeds."

Who locks what is ostensibly a rare collector viper in an abandoned, all-glass building that is surrounded by trees?

I kind of think the owner is hoping it gets stolen . . .

      Does anybody?
And it is sad that they would allude to a vague racing history for advertising.
That's would be like Subaru selling their WRC paint scheme on new WRXs and STIs even though they pulled out of the world rally championship a decade ago.
      But that would be ridiculous.

Regardless of what YOU think it's worth, it is still worth quite a bit.
It is quite common to use old commercial buildings as environmentally controlled storage for vehicles.
My previous company closed during the recession and they re-purposed the large plant buildings for boat/car storage and indoor athletic fields.
Very profitable (if you already have the buildings).

The potato chip plant next to my new main office is now indoor athletics.
Kids will grow up never having played soccer in the direct sun.
      wow.

Sorry for the horrific image quality. It was so bright, and there was an insane amount of glare off the dirty windows.

more info on thr trains please. I had model trains as a kid, and still long for the space to have a large platform to this day.

That being said, its amazing what modern engine management has done for even modded engine reliability today

It's not really surrounded by trees. Right beside those trees which are a single line is oil creek. Pretty much the whole town is surrounded by trees but not the building behind it are two more industrial buildings, beside it is an American legion and across the street another industrial place.

I can imagine it went something like this:

      - mod sees my post, questions whether it's over the line or not.
      - asks for feedback in the super secret mod/Admin forum I'm sure you guys have.
      - consensus is that it JUST straddles the line.
      - someone has the brilliant idea to change emmetts avatar.
