The orange one is quite nice though. Although if I am gonna have a car that fast, its gonna be black so its at least a little bit subtle!

ERheh, I was totally gonna steal that SAME thing you wrote over at AF.com
Quote » That's one of the things he does. More research will reveal that he has his hands in lots of other companies. In his free time he likes to race cars though - in the Speedvision World Challenge series driving a Turner Motorsports prepped BMW 3-Series and also in the Panoz Racing series one year. and uh... he does... you know... he does ok...

Not one, or two, but three McLatren F1's???!?!?!? Hate him!

Yeah... I have done my research.
Some of you might find this to be an interesting read:
http://www.bmwcca.org/Roundel/...shtml
I don't think Frank really intended to own 3 F1's - the original car he bought wasn't able to be imported due to the OBD-II thing I mentioned earlier. He then set out to find a pre-1995 F1 which he purchased an imported (#007). Then sometime later, he purchased the LM. I know he's been trying to get the LM through the red tape for over a year. I'm not sure what's up with the original F1 that he purchased. This is supposed to be a photo of that car though.

Just to clarify, were you attempting to correct something that I had said by posting that info?? If so, where did I error? If not, thanks for including that.It should be noted that one of the 7 prototypes was the LM prototype and another was the F1 GT prototype. The other 5 were F1 road car prototypes.
The infomation about the colors for the five LMs is still up for debate though. I beleive what you have posted to be true based on the info from the poster of "Driving Ambition", but there are still a lot of other pieces of official info that claim all five production F1 LM's were finished in Historic Orange including this quote from the McLarenCars.com website:
"As a tribute to the memory of Bruce McLaren, all the F1 LM's were painted in the same Papaya Orange that was used on his contemporary Formula One and Can Am cars."
It's a great mystery if you care about the history of the car.

I'm not trying to correct anything. Just thought it was interesting info people might like to see.A lot of people don't know just how many (or how few) F1's were actually built. In fact, some people think the F1 is still in production.
I was under the impression that all US legal F1's had to be converted to be single seaters only. As in the 2 side/rear seats had to be removed. Is this true?
That goes along with the ugly bumper story - basically Amerispec Corp made several modifications - all cosmetic without drilling a single new hole in the cars - in order to certify them. The side seats in the cars were never removed, Amerispec just engineered covers to fit over the seats, effectively eliminating them. The whole process was a very strange. Amerispec Corp had imported these 7 F1s through a free-trade zone and was calling themselves the manufacturer. They went to the trouble of issuing new VIN's for the vehicles and labeled the "Ameritech F1" instead of "McLaren F1". They also stated that the year of manufacture on all the cars was 1995 even though most were built after that year. Some would call the things they did shady, others would go even further and call them illegal. I'm certain that the owners didn't care so long as they couldn't be prosecuted and their cars wouldn't be taken away. So far no one has been prosecuted and all the cars are still here - converted back to their original form of course.
Here's some photos of the Amerispec Corp - Ameritech F1 in it's converted form. Boy was it ugly!!
And here's the interior with the covers over the side seats - "...and you though the normal F1 was hard to get into..."

wow that is really gross
The two Black LM's are as follows.Black top half, Dark Grey bottom half, identical to the Uneon Clinic Le Mans car.
On the side are "bunting flag" style graphics in Red, Blue and Yellow with a thick white keyline. Believe me it looks horrible.
Both, along with other F1's are owned by the Brunei Royal family
Peloton, do you have any high-res images of the orange LM?
OMG that is my favorite McLaren. It only comes in papaya orange as a tribute to Bruce Mclaren since his Formula One and Can Am cars were painted in that color. Very nice pics![]()

The driver in this picture looks somewhat like Scott Petterson from Modesto, CA. The guy who is on trial for murdering his wife and un-born son.
I have a dumb question about McLaren F1's... I thought these cars were designed and built in the United States... why all the hassle with "importing" them back into the country?![]()
I saw Jay Leno at a 76 gas station in Studio City. It was on Christmass Eve of 2000. He is a funny looking character. He told me How he bought it from England(At this point im tripping out, Im talking to Leno and looking at a McLaren). I asked him hows the maintenence and he said well its included in the package that is anything fails, technicians will fly in from England to fix it. WhoaAnyways after this convo he just took off. Literally he tooooooooooook offfffffffff. vvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr //////M power

Great story - my friend saw Jay in his McLaren on Mullholland near the Rock Store one weekend. I was too far away to get there that day. I've been trying to get to see his entire collection for quite some time. It's awesome how he will just stand around talking to people who are interested in his various vehicles. If you want, I have some decent photos of Leno's car that I can share.
I also have more hi-res shots of various LM's that I can post. Unfortunately, I've never seen a single photo of the two black LM's with the graphics that 250 GTO mentioned. If anyone has them, please forward them to me.
