Thread: Any 3-wheeler owners?

  1. 08-06-2003 02:50 PM #1
I've been riding them since age 7 (23 now) and currently own a 1985 Kawasaki 250 Prarie with lockable rear differential and a 1985 Honda ATC 125M. I used to have a 1985 Honda ATC 200X, which was quite fast and fun.
I'm just curious if any other Vortexers ride on 3 wheels. I've heard all the negative stories about 3 wheelers, but as with any machine, if you know what you are doing, you'll be fine and have fun too.

Glad you got the hang of it.

All I do is ride over my foot when I put it down to turn on one of those things.

Had one when I was younger, age 7-12, a Honda 200M. Some thought it was too big for me, but I grew into it and it was a great machine. Had one bad accident with it that put me in the hospital for a week with internal bleeding and lots of dirt rash, but nothing broken and I always wore my helmet.

I had mine before quads came out and if I was going to get another no doubt about it I would get a quad. Much more stable.

I've got an 83 Honda ATC250R. Its air cooled, 2-stroke. and damn near bullet proof. Dunes, desert and friends who are hard on her clutch and it still runs like a top.

I've dumped it a few times, but never been seriously hurt. 3 wheelers aren't dangerous, the idiots who got killed on them were.

One of my buddy's has an 85 200x. What a great machine!

Trikes are really fast. I'm willing to bet that a relatively stock 86 Tri-Z, 250R or Tecate would give most any new quad a good run for it's money. Trikes were just a heck of a lot lighter than quads.

I don't buy the "dangerous" arguments. Trikes are different animal than a dirtbike or quad and need to be ridden accordingly. If you're smart about how your ride, you'll never have an issue.

I'm looking into getting a 200X myself next summer after I get married.

Back from the dead! I picked up a 1985 200X at the end of June. What a machine! It is just a blast to ride around on. It goes really good for a 200cc sohc 2 valve.

i've had 3 wheelers dirtbikes and quads.... 3 wheelers are fine if you know how to handle them. I definately took my spills on mine more than once. dirt bikes were fun but i've had the most fun on my quads... i really need to go buy another one. haven't owned one in a few years now... my family is a bit more important than my toy's... even though the toy collection is growing once again

Okay so here it is, my only experience with three wheelers...

So there used to be five us. Really close, we did everything together. So we decide to do a lil' party up at my buddies house (He lives out in the sticks, and has a lot of land) We decide to bring this one kids two four wheelers, and our buddy who's house we are going to decided to make the evening more interesting he'll go buy this three wheeler for sale down the street. Pays $250 for the thing.

So anyway we had to cram the kids two fourwheelers into a short bed, and put one upside down, and someone left the gas on it, flooded the thign so it wouldn'tt start. It also messed up a bunch of **** with the steering. SO i'm sitting therew workin on the fourwheeler trying to get it running. Some of the guys get back with the three-wheeler, come to find out it doesn't run either. 4 guys go to work at it. Strip the thing down, and do who the hell knows....

So I get the fourwheeler running, putt around on it a bit, whatever. They are still workin on the three-wheeler. So a bunch of us are hanging out, some are workin on the thing still. It's about 3 in the morning and i hear "Okay it's ready to go"

So anyway they start up the three-wheeler...apparently they did some exhaust modificatiosn in the process of getting it running because it's the loudest thing EVER. So my buddy cranks down his drive in it. Apparenlty the sound of a hacked-three wheeler in the in the morning produces insane amounts of testosterone, becuse everyone is hoopin and haulerin, one kid jumps on the fourwheeler i had fixed and cranks down after the kid on the three wheeler, meanwhile another kid hops on the second four wheeler and starts rippin on that one to get it started.....

Next thing you know the kid on the three-wheeler is haulin ass back towards us, while the kid on the fourwheeler is headin towards him. No light on the three-wheeler, all he can see is the bright light of the kid coming the other way, they kind of collide, the kid on the three wheeler slams into his dads truck, and gets tossed. Apparently something wasn't right with the three wheeler, because the throttle was stuck open, so the thing ghost rides down the driveway...heading directly for the kid sitting on the other fourwheeler trying to get it started.

HE looks up, like a deer caught in headllights (except there are no headlights on the three wheeler haha) And sees this furrious red three-wheeler flying towrads him, he does like a side flip/dive off the four wheeler just before impact. They T-bone perfectly, and the foot peg of the four wheeler pops the front tire on the three wheeler, the three-wheeler digs two huge ruts in this kids dirt drive way and then finally runs out of gas...

it was the craziest thing i've ever seen. Anyway in the end a few days later these same geniuses tried to take apart to carb and then when they put it back together they forgot a crucial spring and it never ran again, and it's been sitting out in a field ever since, just decaying...

No one likes to take responsibility for their actions. It's easier to sue a large company than it is for someone to suck it up and admit they made a mistake.

A huge percentage of injuries and deaths related to ATVs are NOT caused by the ATV. They're caused by people riding without safety gear, riding under the influence or riding beyond their ability. I have never once seen a three wheeler or quad suddenly throw someone off, then turn around and run them over....
