      Golf Production for 2019

Has their been any confirmation from VW on Golf production moving back to Germany. I've been to my dealer (in NJ) and they have 1 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition.
The sticker on the door jam says it was produced in Mexico. Or are they waiting until the MK8?

If I had to guess it's not moving till the Mk8. We're halfway through 2019 production basically.

Why does it matter where a '19 is produced? Please tell me this isn't a Mexican quality thing. Because, you know, it's not.

This^^^ It would be unusual to move country of origin in this scenario.

That being said, the numbers of MK7.5s coming out of Mexico for 2019 may be impacted due to the model change......

Any other outlines? I've never seen this before. Very cool way to show what's under there.

It's growing on me... that yellow/green one looks particularly good.

If they continue to keep a manual available I could see us replacing my wife's 2015 base Golf with a GTI in a few years.

Looks more like a test mule using the MK7

Hideous though, hopefully it doesn't look anything like that

C-pillar looks as thick and view blocking as the new Mazda3 hatch.

So, here we see the challenges VW faces with the pedestrian impact standards.
You can either have a tall face with a lot of fake grille, like the new Jetta, or you can have a slim and sleek face, but with a giant "forehead", like this new Golf.
I much prefer the sleek face of the Golf, to the tall fake grille of the Jetta.
Overall, this think still looks like a Golf, and makes me feel good about my resale values!

It looks like a little bit of masking tape really does fool a lot of people

This is clearly the Mk 8.
There are no Mk 7 panels or surfaces on this car, for it to just be "a mule using a Mk 7 body".

Yes although the bulging hood is less severe on the Golf then some others out there - Honda Civic comes to mind.

      I hope so

I also hope the back end of the car doesn't look like that. Looks like a Tiguan. Works with the Tiguan, but not a Golf/GTI. Needs to be shorter like the MK6 and MK7.

I don't know what you mean by "has to be shorter" but it looks like the actual taillights are smaller and they do not extend around the sides to the vertical C-pillar cut line - like on the MK7. There is tape to make it look like the MK7.

They should just go all the way down with it. Call it the "Heritage Hood."

There are stickers to make it look as if lines/shapes are in slightly different places than they are, but the design has been "locked" for some time. It hasn't been a "mule" for quite a while.

A mule is the term for a cobbled together early prototype using the previous or different car to test aspects of the design, such as lighting, suspension or cooling.

I'm warming up to them as well. I'm sure it'll look better in person too. Now I'm really curious as to what drivetrain will be in the MK8 R. I'm gearing up to buy a 7.5, but may hold off for a few years if the MK8 is compelling (AKA doesn't lose the manual)

The camo to make the headlights look as if the hood contours around them is nicer than the real thing based on the other disguised images I've seen so far. The hood ending flat just doesn't do it for me.

At this point I think we have to accept that fake exhaust is taking over everything. Even the new 911 has a fake-ish exhaust. I've heard it's insurance companies driving the change, too many high claims for destroyed exhaust systems when someone is rear ended while they are hard on the brakes.

I'm willing to accept fake on plebeian cars, but I hope performance cars like the MKVIII GTI and R have at least inset exhaust tips that are visible through bumper cut outs.

We are living in grand and (relatively) stable times, when such a minor detail can elicit such strong reaction.
Our grandparents crossed oceans and fought wars, for us to have the freedom to "roll-eyes" at fake exhaust tips.
There are poor people around the world, who would gladly take our excess fake exhaust tips.

Wow, quite a departure from the almost perfect mkVII design. That front looks so weird, like it's been pinched together. Guess I'll have to see this in person, but seems like everything VW is putting out has some serious awkward angles to it. In 2020/21, the Arteon is the only attractive offering in the VW lineup.
