What size wheel is on my new (to me) 2012 EOS Executive and what is best replacement tire? Also does it have a timing chain or belt?

I just bought a used 2012 VW EOS Executive with 120,000 miles and it is in great shape. But I need tires, and the specs I have seen on the Internet show it should have 18" "Kansas" alloy wheels, but the placard inside the driver’s door says front and rear tires are 235/45R17XL, which indicate 17” wheels. The tires on the car are Primewell Valera Sport AS tires, size 235/45 ZR17 that need to be replaced. The spec website I was on also shows tire size 235/40HR18 all-season tires and Tirerack.com and Costco both say I need 235/40-18 but the placard indicates 17” wheels! What is the difference between 235/40-18 and 235/45? I am totally confused on what size tire to buy and tire dealers are not much help. What is a good replacement tire (not Primewells). Also, does the 2012 EOS have a timing chain and does the chain need to be replaced at some point? Thanks in advance for your help

if the rims on your car right now are 17's then replace them with 17" tires.

for the tire size 235 means the width of your tire in millimeters
40 or 45 means the height of your tire side wall from the edge of where the tire and rim meet to the top of the tire

for 17" tires 235/ 45 / 17 is a good size i used to run 225 45 r17 but my rims where probably a little skinnier than yours

i really like dunlop for the price and quality

with the car being a 2012 it is run on a chain, and yes it does need to be replaced every 120,000 miles (200,000kms) with your car being at 120,000 miles i would say its about time to do the chain unless where you got it from could prove that it has already been done.

since this ia a 2012 i would do it sooner rather than later because there is a slight chance that this has the old style tensioner for the chain which is prone to failure and will destroy your motor. they updated the chain tensioner sometime in 2012 so depending on when yours was made it could have the old style or newer style so make sure you have it checked out by a local vw dealer or vw specialist

Thanks for the quick reply. Your information was very helpful.

Thanks for your quick response. I have some work to do to check out what has been done with this car. I intend to keep it so will check the timing chain ASAP
