VTEC Just kicked in YO, or Sometimes, I just get lucky.

At the request of our very own VadGTI, I'm making this thread. A gentleman pulled onto our CDJR lot looking at 3/4 Cummins Rams. I was walking out on the lot and I yelled, "hey, I love your car!" He stopped and said, "Really", and I was like, yeah, I love these old Acuras. I walk over to his passenger side and lean down to speak to him and he tells me he's getting ready to sell it for parts on the local Facebook trader. After a brief exchange of niceties, he let me drive the car.

Knowing nothing about them, I made an offer of $1000, and he was a little shocked. We shook hands and he will be bringing it to me in the morning. I then texted Vad some pics, and he blew me up with questions. Sadly, I didn't have many answers but I had a VIN. I sent it to him, and then he started cussing at me.

As it turns out, it has a DC2 in the VIN, and that means that its a GS-R.

I just ordered a timing belt and water pump kit and have it scheduled for the repair on Saturday. The car has 229k miles on it and its a 5 speed manual. Its been owned by a single family and was purchased new by the current owner's father in law.

I've never done a Honda before, but I'm excited. My goal is a period correct "restoration" with a nice quality driver as the end-result.

Not sure what is crazier, that you got a GSR for $1k or that the dude thought it was a highball offer.

I'll probably do something stupid like put a bunch of money in it and make it a very nice stock example.

Which is what I would do too if I happened upon a $1k GSR. Make a nice Radwood ride.

That teal color with gold badge package... so 90s

The color and gold badging is what drew me to it across the parking lot.

Thanks. It's not perfect by any stretch, and I will likely spend 5X what I paid for the car just on the body. The interior needs a good scrubbing, but it's a great start to a nice car.

The owner told me that the car won't hardly turn over with the A/C on, and that when its really hot outside, the car idles really low and sometimes dies. I'm guessing a gummed up IAC is to blame for that. Oh, and the ABS light is on and the suspension is worn out, but this should be a fun project that I'm looking forward to.

Great deal. Buddy bought a 92 Civic CX hatch for $500 in 2004 (and drove it for 7 years until accident). This deal is even better.

I love that green, plus unlike the dark greens that the integra had, it had the black dash from the factory. Engine bay pics!

Just imagine a greasy DOHC lump that hasn't been serviced in 100k miles.

Nice score OP! Those are fun cars and they have so much potential. A few minor fixes and tweaks and I'm sure you'll be laughing.

A coworker got a mismatched sedan for like $900 that runs and drives, but I don't think it's a GSR.
