Hey everyone! Brand new to the forum. As you can see by the title, my newest purchase is a 1981 VW Rabbit LS Deluxe 4 door, 4 speed and I am having the hardest time tracking down new coil springs for it. I paid $800 for it from a local hippie. It has 187K miles, but a 1.6 TD out of a 1992 Jetta and a Veggie oil conversion. If I could enlist some help from you guys to help me find the right springs? I’d greatly appreciate it
The mk1 shocks are relatively short. On my S1 w/ cabby springs and the 2" spacer lift on the rears, the rear shocks top out (bang) very easily unless I keep some weight in the back.
I am intrigued, tell me more! And no, springs didn’t break. Like you said, it’s just got a really saggy behind and I can say I’m a fan. Do you have a link? Or more details?
I don't have a link,..
and probably not a picture.
I like Boge turbogas struts,. now Sachs advantage.
The spring seats that come with them don't fit the springs.
So I slide them on the strut first,
then a piece of 2" exhaust pipe slides down over the strut.
It should be large enough diameter to fit over the thing on the bottom of the spring seat
then I slide the stock spring seat over that,.. then the spring.
I haven't had a problem with any banging or anything from them topping out, if they do.
Looks good normally and helps alot when it's got a load.
I actually followed the advice of new springs and used the convertible springs. Raised the car about 3” in the back
