HOW THE HELL ARE WE AT POST #26 WITH NO CARRERA GT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Hands down my favorite howl. Otherwise yes, pretty much anything Ferrari + the LFA.

On more plebian levels, BMW's I6's (particularly M varients) are the closest thing an old school GT racer sound that you'll get, IMO. They're not for everyone, not everyone enjoys that raspy howling clamor when you ring it out, but there is some level of mechanical aural pleasure listening to that symphony.

I agree with you on that. So many great cars. Really love the wailing of the Ferrari’s, especially that F50 GT. I am surprised no ones thrown out Pagani yet.

Widening the scope a little brings in my all-time favourite, the two-wheeled Honda CBX:

      https://youtu.be/lal5UgVyiiU

Videos just don’t seem to do it enough justice...so awesome.

Adding more wheels, I’d say a supercharged Detroit Diesel 8V-71 with straight pipes is a close second for me.

I like the sound of a 6 cylinder car myself, of any variety.. flat, Vee, or inline. But best sounding car? Woof.... perhaps a GT- series Porsche at full blast?

Widening the scope a bit more.

Detroit Diesel 8V-71. Yes it is now really obsolete, but it definitely sounded good in its day.

Here it is in a classic 1973 Sultana:

a lot of great engines out there. personally, I have a weird appreciation for 6-cylinder engines; I like them a lot more than pretty much any configuration, especially inline-6s.

I like RBs, N52s and M54s. Super smooth- and almost gradual orchestral-sounding climax.

S1 definitely takes the cake. 2nd place Ferrari F1 V10s. That CGT sounds like a raspy butthole on a Civic.

      As stated, LFA and 787b.

I was lucky enough to drive a friend's LFA. It's glorious.

i've always classed my favorites by cylinder count and whether it's a race car or not.

      street cars -
      I4 - S2000 (i've got one and on a good exhaust it's just rowdy)
      I6 - well tuned E46 M3
      V6 - GTRs
V8 - 1960's 427 corvettes with factory side pipes (close runner up the Ferrari 430 scud, but that's basically a race car)
      V10 - toss-up LFA or Carrera GT
      V12 - Ferrari 250GTO

      favorite race cars
easy, the C5R-C7R - unmistakable on track, the sound of freedom, apple pie, and playboy models
      runner-up - seeing the V10 period Ferrari F1 cars

here's one of my favorite clips. s2000 on a single exit TI exhaust...not much else under 25k will feel this special.

Ahh, excellent reference. What a trip.. I haven’t watched C’était un rendez-vous in probably a decade. Gonna have to remember to watch that on a big screen with a good audio system now that I’ve graduated from YouTube on a laptop.

Damn. My new favorite thread. Just throwing out something more attainable like the VR6 and Audi/VW’s in-line 5.
